SnB - roll on 2008!

Saturday was the big day for the first ever London SnB day. It was a fantastic day out, such a different atmosphere to ally pally. It was more like a huge knitter's party - very relaxed, and fun. Lots of familar faces, old friends and new. There was a fashion show, headed by the lovely Gerard and Craig from iknits (who incidentally also did a top notch job of organising it - long may they knit), a performance poet, a comedy sketch, music by the Shellac ladies who wore 1940s (I think) outfits and hair (one lady had on the most amazing knitted dress. Gorgeous!). There were knitters from Holland who'd come and brought Dutch treats, and of course Debbie Stoller who was there for the UK launch of her book, Son of Stitch & Bitch.

I met quite a few members for the SOCK(topus)CLUB 2007, and familiar faces from the launch. Diane was there to help out at the stall, as was Yoshimi (all the way from Leicester!). Helda, Mel, Gabrielle, Anna, Woolly (who is a fellow Canadian and very possible from the same hometown), Yvonne, Laura, Sharon, another lovely Alice {aren't we all lovely! ;)}, Emms, Arianne, Larissa, Hayley, Liz, oh and I'm forgetting names I know!!

Met a few more UK artisans - OxfordKitchen yarns handdyed in an Oxford Kitchen! Devon dyed cashmere, using natural dyes, FluffenStuff, and Jon Dunn's wonderful EasyKnitter handdyeds - in addition to the wonderful creations from Fyberspate's Jen, Natural Dye Studio's Amanda, and Knitwitches' Eirwen. When they say yarn is like smack... the hit you get from seeing and touching and squiding the yarn...it just gives me shivers it's so good!

The Canadian Yarn that debuted at SnB was Indigo Moon from Gabriola BC, handdyed by Trish Moon. Trish is a weaver and dyes her own silks for weaving, and luckily we now have her artists eye dying semi solids for sock yarn! Her sock yarn has three colour series: Vancouver, Nature's Harvest (dyed with natural dyes only), and the Handpainted series which is variegated. But the Vancouver and Nature's Harvest series are also somewhat variegated, only with semi solids. So there is a gorgeous depth to the colour! I had the Vancouver Series and the Handpainted series which got a great reception - it's not my baby at all but I feel inordinately proud of Trish Moon's creations. So beautiful, and am proud that it's Canadian!

I now have more GoKnit Pouches (which was the box I thought were flock socks) so those will go up as soon as I have internet connection - which they say will be TODAY [*dancing a little jig!*]- and Flock Socks also due today (I managed to track it down - good ol' Parcel Force managed to totally cock up transcribing the address on the box to the computer, meaning that some poor person somewhere is getting urgent letters from parcel force to pay customs charges!

Oh and Sunday Alex from LixieKnits interviewed me for her podcast! I swear I was coherent and of sound mind when she met me, but as soon as the recorder was switched on... there was much giggling and verbal meandering. So apologies if I made no sense, I can only say that my senses temporarily left me! :) It was still alot of fun, and I got to eat a cupcake during the interview. Cupcakes are always good things, in my book! Alex is lovely, and I look forward to hearing it in a morbid fascination kind of way (like a little kid who can't stop looking at road kill...)!

A belated welcome to the UK for a fellow Canadian, yes it is even the same town... spooky. If my socks arrive in time they may even go on my trip home for Christmas. Woolly says hi too.

I am so proud to be from BC. When people mention Indigo Moon and Gabriola Island... the Vancouver Series... ah just a pang of love for my westcoast home!
