Y'all ready for this?

by alice on 1 September 2009

I won’t pretend it hasn’t been hard juggling everything as a one woman show and those of you out there who do it day in day out you have my unreserved respect. For me however, life was heading in a direction that I wasn’t enjoying as much as I would have liked. I lost my mojo for a little while, and with that the sparkle of excitement and fun I get from my knitting.

Fortunately, serendipity came calling and opened an unexpected door for me.

Are you sitting comfortably? Good. Do you have a drink? Please put it on a stable surface. And swallow any drink you have in your mouth. Excellent. Now, I have some bad news. But don’t despair, it is followed by some rather fabulous jazz hands news.

The sad news is that Socktopus as you know it is closing. But fear not, for when a door closes, somewhere another opens. And in this case, it opens onto another better, more exciting Socktopus.

Y’all ready for this?

Socktopus is joining knitterly forces with Stash Yarns in Putney. Nathalie G & I have been chatting and scheming a storm of knitting fun.

Socktopus will bring to Stash Yarns the wonderful and unique sock yarns you’ve grown to love, as well as the regular knit nights (both shop-based every Thursday night from 1 October & extra roving ones), fun events, and online shopping. All this will partner with the already fab events, classes and yarns offered by Stash, to make one incredible razzle dazzle get-out-your-jazz-hands hit of a yarn shop.

Joining with Stash Yarns will also enable me to focus on two of my dearest babes – my sock club in its new form, the Knit Love Club; and Knit Nation Summer Expo 2010 – a sock, lace & summer knitting extravaganza next July. More details will follow on both the Knit Love Club & Knit Nation later this week (a week of treats!).

So I will say my sad farewells to Worlds End Studios, pack up and move out to green leafy Putney. All stock in the Socktoshop will go on sale as of today at 30% off. Code to use is “SOCKSTASH”. At the end of the day on the 30th September, the online shop will close. The Chelsea LYS will also close. And from 1 October, you will find Socktopus at Stash Yarns. Our first knit night will be at the Putney shop on Thursday 1 October. The online shop will reopen once we have spruced it up, bigger and better than before. Stash Yarns will have a Socktopus section of fab sock yarns and indie dyers. And you my dears, will have a veritable treasure trove at your fingertips. Get ready for this!

phew! About halfway through I got worried! Glad you’ve found some way of making it work for you and still allowing us to join in. Now, how to avoid spending all my fees on your remaining stock…

Does anyone know if this means Stash will be changing their opening hours? On their website, it says 10-5 Tuesday to Friday, 11-5 Saturday (and closed on Monday and Sunday).

Robynn Weldon 3 September 2009 at 12:09 pm

Congrats – sounds like a great move for you. I’ve often wondered how you managed to do such an amazing job all on your tod, I am sure that teaming up with the brilliant Stash will make life much more fun. The shop will be (even more) excellent too!

Hi Alice, good luck with the move. I have been off-line and come on after a break to see the news. I am really happy that you, like a butterfly are transforming (not that you were anything but fantastic before) and are staying in the game. Knitters need people like you, so keep up the good work and the sock club! Michelle
