The Aurantium Blossom Shawl started life as a KAL over Twitter in July 2009. It is a three part shawl – the Petitgrain lace pattern (of my own devising, using an Estonian star stitch technique) is the easy first section. Every other row is a purl row.

The second section section is the popular Estonian flower stitch. Absolutely gorgeous. It looks complicated, but it really is not. This too has every other row as a purl row.

The border section is a Victorian asymmetrical leaf lace, a true lace worked on both sides. However, the pattern gives you both chart and written directions; with the help of some well place stitch markers you will be able to keep count where the decreases occur.

You can increase the size of the shawl by working any one of the three sections larger than specified, but you will need more yarn. The silver sample was knit up in Handmaiden’s 4 ply Swiss Mountain Cashmere & Silk.  The laceweight version was knit in Knitwitches Seriously Gorgeous Laceweight Cashmere & Silk.
