Fiori di Zucca
These were my my first ever design on my first ever design made for my first sock club, Sock(topus)Club. I called them Fiori di Zucca socks, because the stitch pattern that I completely fell in love with reminded me of courgette blossoms. As my ‘first born’ these socks have a special place in my heart. They start with a vine leaf scalloped edge, transitioning beautifully into the courgette blossom pattern. At the time, Cat Bordhi had come out with her wonderful New Pathways book. Inspired by Cat the heel is worked as an arch expansion so there is no heel flap to detract from the beautiful lace. Finally, a pretty overlap from the side ‘wings’ gives the lace on the foot a nice edging.
The sock is worked top down, using increases and short rows to shape the heel. No picking up stitches or knitting back and forth for the heel flap. It looks complicated, but the lace is a really easy 4 row repeat.
